چکیده
Shishir Agrawal, [email protected] The rapid growth of Internet and increase in real-time and multimedia applications have created a need to improve Internet routing technology in terms of bandwidth, performance, scalability and delivery of new functionalities. Several proposals involving application of layer 2 switching technology to layer 3 routing have been made to counter above challenges. Noticeable efforts in this directions are Ipsilon's IP Switching, Cisco's Tag Switching, IBM's ARIS, Toshiba's CSR and MPLS. Integration of mobile IP and multi-protocol label switching
Multi-Protocol Label Switching is a technology that combines the simplicity of IP routing with the high-speed switching of ATM. Mobile IP is a protocol that allows users to move around and yet maintain continuous IP network connectivity. In this paper, we propose a scheme to integrate the Mobile IP and MPLS protocols. The integration improves the scalability of the Mobile IP data forwarding pro...
متن کاملA Comprehensive Comparison of IP Switching and Tag Switching
Both IP switching and Tag switching were recently proposed to improve the performance of IP routers. They are all based on a multi-layer label-swapping mechanism, but their implementations are quite different. In this paper, we present an overview of both switching mechanisms, compare their key features, identify their constraints, and analyze the effect of these constraints on performance. Our...

متن کاملDemonstration of All-Optical Packet Switching Routers With Optical Label Swapping and 2R Regeneration for Scalable Optical Label Switching Network Applications
This paper investigates comprehensive operation and experimentation of an all-optical packet switching router with optical label swapping and reamplification and reshaping (2R) regeneration, capable of multihop operation and Internet protocol (IP)client interoperability. In particular, the experiment demonstrates successful packet switching and transport up to 11 hops with 10 9 bit-error rate a...
متن کاملPerformance comparison of hinted- and advertisement-based movement detection methods for mobile IP hand-offs
In this study Hinted Cell Switching is introduced as a new alternative to the Mobile IP advertisement based movement detection methods. It is a method that relies on “hints” generated during subnetwork layer hand-offs for reacting faster to Mobile IP hand-offs. In this study the performance of Hinted Cell Switching is compared through the use of simulations against those of advertisement based ...
متن کاملNondeterministic Classifier Performance Evaluation for Flow Based IP Switching
In modern IP networks, processing cost in network nodes is considered as a bottleneck. This problem is tackled with traffic based IP switching. The performance of traffic based IP switching depends heavily on flow classification. We demonstrate a method to evaluate the performance gains available with this technique with an optimal nondeterministic classifier giving a practical lower bound for ...
